Looking east at the Presidential Range of the White Mountains, of New Hampshire. This June view is from the quiet side of the region at Weeks State Park, in Lancaster, NH. There was still a bit of snow on the summit of Mount Washington, which is the tallest peak in the painting. Painted en plein air. I painted this piece en from the porch of this early 20th century estate and land that was given to the state by the children of John Wingate Weeks, a U.S. Representative from Massachusetts. He was a driving force in the passage of the Weeks Act in 1911, allowing for the establishment of national forests in the eastern United States, including the White Mountain National Forest. The estate is on the Register of Historic Places.
